FOOD SERVICE MANAGER (full-time)

We are searching for a passionate and experienced Food Service Manager to oversee our kitchen operations for Summer Camp and Retreat season. Our ideal candidate will have a heart for serving others, provide excellent leadership skills, and have a proven track record in food service management &/or guest services. Primary responsibilities include ordering/procurement, occasional food preparation, scheduling/managing kitchen staff, basic cleaning, and monitoring food quality, portions, and special dietary needs. Individual must be able to perform at a high level in a fast paced environment.

This positions require that employees be in good physical fitness, capable of lifting 50 pounds, standing for up to 12 hours per day, and often working in a warm environment.

FOOD SERVICE STAFF - RETREATS &/OR SUMMER CAMP

We have multiple opportunities available in our Food Service department!

Retreat &/or Summer Camp Cooks:

The cooks at Woodland are the heart of our food service! We need individuals who are friendly and well-mannered, can follow written and verbal instructions, are confident at food preparation including baking, and can work well with others. Food service staff will prepare food, serve meals, and help with basic kitchen cleaning. Retreat season positions will primarily work weekends (Aug - May). Summer Camp positions (June-July) are available Sunday evening - Friday morning (8 hour shifts, multiple days available).

($11-15 per hour, commensurate w/experience and training)

Retreat Kitchen Staff:

Woodland's Kitchen Staff are essential to our ministry. Staffers will help setup, serve, and clean during meal times. Applicant should be a self-starter, confident in following instructions, friendly with guests, and can work in a fast paced environment. Retreat season positions will primarily work weekends (Aug - May).

($9-11 per hour, commensurate w/experience and training)

All Food Service positions require that employees be in good physical fitness, capable of lifting 25 pounds, standing for up to 12 hours per day, and often working in a warm environment.

SUMMER STAFF (COLLEGE-AGE STUDENTS)

Woodland's Summer Staff consists of dedicated young men and women desiring to serve in a Christian Camp environment. Summer Staff are paid summer-long positions; individuals serve in a variety of capacities from food service to life guarding and activity management to maintenance. Woodland is seeking Christian college-age students who have a servant's heart, work well with others, have a positive attitude, and enjoy working with children (ages 6-18). Our Summer Staff serve in support roles and have separate housing from campers. If you are a college-age student, between the ages of 18 and 24, please consider joining us as Summer Staff!

SUPPORT STAFF (HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS)

Woodland is also in need of high school students, at least 16 years of age, to serve as Support Staff. These paid positions are pivotal to the success of our food service ministry! Students will setup, serve, and clean during meal times, assist with afternoon Canteens (snack-time), and also help with some outdoor activities. Applicant should be a self-starter, confident in following instructions, and can work in a fast paced environment. (On-site housing not available.) Working at camp can be physically demanding. All positions require that employees be in good physical fitness with a high level of energy. Staff must be capable of walking up to 3 miles per day - many times on uneven terrain, lifting 25 pounds, reading and following instructions, serving in warm environments, and working outside frequently.

On-site Summer Staff housing for college-age students is provided during Summer Camp.

Required Summer Staff Training Week (for college-age students): May 11-22, 2026

Required Support Staff training (for high school students): May 21-22, 2026

Frequently Asked Questions for Summer & Support Staff

  • No, Summer Staff have separate housing from campers and serve in a support role. If you wish to serve as cabin staff, please visit our Summer Volunteers page.

  • Yes, Woodland provides room and board for our college-age Summer Staff, along with a generous base pay. Summer Staff will also be provided with marketing material that will enable them to increase their base pay through donor funding. High School Support Staff also receive a weekly salary and meals, but are not able to live on-site. 

  • We hire 12-14 Summer Staff each summer, along with 3-6 high school Support Staff. 

  • Submit your on-line Staff application. 

    - Have TWO different individuals complete and submit a Woodland reference form. (Reference Form will be provided during the on-line application process.) 

    - After both references are secured, the Programming Coordinator will contact you to setup a phone interview. 

    - If you are chosen to move on to the next step of the hiring process, the Programming Coordinator will contact you to setup an on-site interview and facility tour.

  • Summer Camp starts on May 25th and ends Aug. 2nd. However, these dates are subject to change based on bookings/reservations.  

  • Typical Summer Camp weeks start at 2:30pm on Sundays for Summer Staff. Camps conclude by 12noon on Fridays, so Summer Staff should be finished between 4-5pm and will be off until Sunday. (Days/times to be worked during certain program dates will vary and include 4-5 weekends, but off-days will be rotated.)

  • If you already have a mission trip, etc. scheduled, you may be able to take off work, depending on scheduling. This information should be discussed in your initial interview, prior to hiring. 

  • We can host 4 different groups and up to 410 people on-site at one time. Summer Staff serve & clean-up from meals, facilitate Ropes Course activities, life guard at the pool / lake / slip-n-slide, lead archery, manage the inflatable slide / pedal karts, serve Canteen (snacks), and help with cleaning and maintenance. The schedule changes daily and Summer Staff rotate between the different jobs. Summer Staff serve in a support role, but are pivotal to the success of our ministry!
