Our Story
Since 1969, Woodland has partnered with churches and organizations to provide a unique setting where opportunities are created for growth and life change.
Our Story
Nestled in the rolling hills of West Georgia, Woodland Christian Camp & Retreat Center was created in 1969 with a clear purpose: to provide opportunities for Christian growth in a natural setting. Established by a group of Christian Churches, its 44-acre property was originally purchased to offer a place for Christian youth from the Atlanta-metro area to camp, retreat, and fellowship. The core mission has always been to create an environment that encourages reflection, relaxation, and renewal for people of all ages, helping them find balance away from the pressures of daily life.
Since hosting 487 campers in its first summer, Woodland has experienced remarkable growth. In 1982, an additional 56 acres was purchased for a second camp and 8 acre lake. The development of this unique railroad themed ‘Woodland Junction’ camp was aided by the donation of 12 boxcars by Southern Railway, Inc. The 1990’s brought further enhancements, including the addition of a challenge ropes course to enrich the camp's programming. In 2000, additional acreage was purchased to build Heritage Camp and a multipurpose Gymnasium. This period of steady growth demonstrated the leadership's commitment to expanding the camp's facilities and impact.
Throughout its history, Woodland has maintained its focus on excellence. Earl Hobson (1971), Joey Westbrook (1981), and now Pete Dockery (2022) have served as Executive Directors for Woodland and created great impact in ministry of Christian Camping.
Today, Woodland Christian Camp & Retreat Center spans 120 acres and serves over 11,000 people annually. The multifaceted ministry has grown to include four distinct camps on one site and increased its capacity to over 400 beds. By hosting summer camp programs, providing retreat facilities for ministries and non-profit groups, and facilitating leadership training where Christian principles are taught and/or modeled, Woodland continues to fulfill its founding vision. The beautiful wooded setting and serene lake provides a unique backdrop for recreation, spiritual development, and community.

Our Statement of Faith
We believe in the one God, Creator of heaven and earth, who eternally exists in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
We believe God the Son assumed human nature, was born of a virgin, ministered in word and miracle, died for our sin, was raised bodily from the dead, and ascended to God’s right hand where he presently reigns.
We believe the Holy Spirit indwells every Christian and is presently working in the Christian community, empowering lives of godliness and service.
We believe the Holy Bible is inspired by God, trustworthy in its teaching, and the final authority for all matters of faith and practice.
We believe all of humanity, due to sin, is destined for death, corruption, and separation from God apart from the redemptive work of Jesus Christ.
We believe Jesus Christ established his church to be one holy people, to glorify God, and to carry out his saving mission among all nations.
We believe in God’s saving grace that calls for faith, repentance, confession, baptism, and new life and service through the Spirit.
We believe in the blessed hope of the second coming of Jesus Christ, who will raise the dead and judge all with justice and mercy, and in consummating the Kingdom of God.
